Wash Your Face

Wash your face morning and night! This may seem obvious, but I've had clients tell me they don't wash their faces either in the morning or at night and this allows for dirt, oil and bacteria to stay put, OR the makeup from the day will asphyxiate the skin, allowing only about half the amount of much need oxygen it needs. It further causes clogged pores, dull skin, trap dead skin cells cells.

Wash your pillowcase!

Your pillowcase has a buildup of oils, bacteria, dirt, sweat from daily use! Yes, even though you wash your face EVERY night ;) You can still get over days a buildup of these! IT has been recommended that you wash your pillowcase, or change it out every week. IF you are prone to acne skin, try more frequently than that!

Exfoliate

There are 2 types of exfoliation: Chemical (Hydroxy Acids) & Mechanical (scrubs). Both work to rid of the dead skin cells that can cause a build up, and clog pores thus causing a breakout! NOTE: If you have acne prone skin OR have a current break out avoid using a scrub! This will spread the bacteria causing future breakouts.

Mask

Depending on the mask being… used the benefits will vary. But overall using a mask once a week will allow the ingredients to penetrate better into your skin in a shorter amount of time. Using a mask for breakouts would include a charcoal or clarifying mask to pull out the dirt, oil and bacteria from the pores!

Clean your makeup brushes

Just like your pillowcase, you should wash your brushes every week, preferably every 5 days or so. This will keep your brushes free of the dirt, oil and bacteria and preventing those from spreading to the surrounding pores causing more breakouts! Not to mention your makeup will apply much more smooth and flawless!

Bonus Tip!

I hope you enjoyed the 5 tips on how to help prevent a breakout! NOW for my BONUS TIP: If you are experiencing the infamous maskne… Wash your masks daily! Use a clarifying mask in those targeted areas 2x a week This is my FAV! Bring a small spray bottle with you in your purse, car, or gym bag and spray (just a few sprays and allow to air dry real quick) the inside of your mask with your toner to keep the bacteria at bay and keep pH back into the skin while you are out and about!
